A 90-Year Legacy of Excellence, Empowerment, and Enlightenment

In the stirring years of India’s freedom movement, when the nation was striving for independence, a few visionary leaders in the humble village of Kandivli believed that true freedom begins with education.

In 1936, Sri Jamanadas Adukia, Sri Gokaldas Ranchoddas, and Sri Lavji Meghji, along with other philanthropic community leaders, founded the Kandivli Education Society (KES) with a noble mission to provide quality vernacular education to Gujarati families and uplift society through knowledge.

Their patriotic dream gained formal recognition in 1947, on the eve of India’s independence — marking the beginning of a transformative educational journey.

Humble Beginnings, Remarkable Growth

KES planted its first seed on March 31, 1936, with the establishment of Shree Kandivali Vidyalaya, starting with just 13 students.

What began as a modest initiative soon flourished into the renowned Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel High School (SVP), which today nurtures over 4,500 students.

Expanding its academic horizon:

1961 – Introduction of a Technical Section
1976 – Launch of a Science Junior College, later named Shri T. P. Bhatia Junior College of Science, now serving 3,000 students

Education for All, Opportunities for Every Dream

True to its inclusive vision, KES introduced the SVP Night School in 1970, empowering working youth to pursue education alongside their careers.

In 1984, KES broadened its cultural canvas by establishing Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, affiliated with the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal, fostering excellence in Indian classical music and dance.

Higher Education with Distinction

The journey continued with the establishment of KES College of Arts & Commerce in 1989, later renamed in 2008 as:

B. K. Shroff College of Arts
M. H. Shroff College of Commerce

These institutions are permanently affiliated autonomous colleges with the University of Mumbai, and today educate over 11,600 students, shaping future leaders and professionals.

Embracing Global Standards

In 2009, KES embraced global education by launching the KES Cambridge International Junior College, offering the prestigious A-Level programme from the University of Cambridge.

This initiative opened doors to undergraduate opportunities in more than 125 countries worldwide.

From a small classroom of 13 students to a thriving educational network of over 20,000 learners, KES stands today as a beacon of commitment, integrity, and excellence.
